The Great North Swim

The weekend of the 4th - 5th of September, Windermere is having their annual Great North Swim where many people apply to swim in open waters covering one mile. It is only a competition if people want it to be, generally it is where people come with their sponsors expecting a wonderful sunny day and enjoy their chance to do something adventurous. Following this, will be a camp at Great Tower, time to chill after the big event. Hopefully people will be generous about such a massive event. Postponed

Christmas Tree Decorating

Warton holds an annual event, where christmas trees, of 4ft, are submitted by each group. The tree is to be decorated uniquely, and donations are made. As a district, we hope to submit our own, where each unit, within each section, sends their home-made decoration to be added to the tree. We want ours to be based on Sweden, so everything will be very natural, with no special colours. Back to Basics, once more. A suggestion was that an evening, in Late November, two sections would join to make one. Like the Warton Beavers and Cubs.

This event went extremely well and we are all happy with it's success. All of the scouts who took part really enjoyed it, and that's what made it work well.

Songs of Praise

We will have it held at a church (probably Warton) with one choir singing the Songs of Praise, where mince pies (and more) will be sold too. It should be a nice event. November/December time.

Bag Packing

We have two major supermarkets who are happy to let us help with the bag packing: Morrisons and Asda. Morrisons is the 26th February, Asda is the 26th March.

Both are now over and done with now. For the first Bag Pack, we were lucky to raise £677 altogether, and for the second, we raised over £300. It was also a great way to publicise not only the Scouting Movement, but the Jamboree too. (And that girls were a part of Scouting too!)

Quizzes

These are for selling (around £1) to those at church, friends, anyone basically, with perhaps a reward. This is something simple to do, simply create an A4 quiz, print a few, and sell anywhere. You'll find that they are quite popular, as it should be something challenging for the brain. The winner, with the highest score would win a prize.

I believe that after doing about 3 different types of quizzes to sell, we have found it an interesting experience and a way to let friends and family get in on the journey.

Car Washing

People tend to enjoy having a shiny car, and there's not a lot to cleaning a car, when there are many hands available to help out. But be warned - wear something suitable! This may be held at Carnforth's Catholic Church, Our Lady of Lourdes, where there are two entrances to the car park. <a Drive Through Wash and Dash> pricing it cheaply, getting many costumers (anyone passing) perhaps a poster nearby to attract attention, so people can drive in, sign the important disclaimer (about scratches) and perhaps whilst the car is being cleaned and pampered, go into the Church Hall, grab a cup of tea and cake for a price of £1 maybe, and drive off with a lovely looking car and a smile on their face. Great for summer weather!
